Fifth grade students recently participated in a 4-H STEM activity. The objective was to build a tower using a specific number of spaghetti noodles, marshmallows, and masking tape. They were not given additional materials. If any of their materials broke or were damaged, they could not obtain replacements. The tower had to stand without student support or with additional materials. The group with the tallest tower won the challenge. The group for this activity built a tower that was 14 inches! The goal of the activity was to get students working collaboratively to solve a problem.
